31st January, 2020
This is an emergency site update - We have been flooded due to a burst water pipe. We will be closed till the insurance assessors give us the all clear that the surgery is clinically safe and useable. Please leave your contact details on the popup form so that we can keep you updated on our status. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Update 1 - 7th October, 2020

Apologies for the extended delay between the emergency flood post and this update but we just received a somewhat hopeful email yesterday. The insurance repairers are aiming for a handover date on Tuesday, 20th of October. That's this year we are assuming as it wasn't specified in the email we saw. We will try and keep the website frontpage updated with new information if it's somewhat concrete. We have also switched to a new cloud based practice management system - Core Practice. We are hoping to get a mass email sent out notifying of the reopening date once we have something more concrete.

Update 2 - 20th October, 2020

Well, as you can guess in the building world, things took a bit longer than expected. The surgery is looking quite pretty. We don't really have any dental chairs set up yet but the surgery does look presentable again. I have been advised that I have already managed to void the laminate floor warranty as I was instructed by a mould specialist lab to drill holes in certain locations for them to test for toxic mould in the surgery as the flooding event was pretty extensive and I did feel it prudent to double check the clearance certificate that was already issued. I felt this was quite a small price to pay for the health and safety of the patients under our care. I have been advised that the surgery will probably be ready for handover in about another 2 weeks or so. As before, will post updates as I get notified by the insurance team handling the claim.

Update 3 - 13th September 2021

Apologies for the lack of updates but we have had a bit of issue in the reconstruction process. I had to appeal to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA - the Ombudsman) back in May 2020. The trigger for that was that the Insurer sent a letter of declinature regarding the renewal of the insurance for the premises. Further to that, in September/October I noted and documented a few worrying things in the rebuild process. As many my regular patients know, I possess a fair bit of building knowledge acquired over the years culminating in the building of my house (yes it's kind of built now guys). I noticed that none of the water affected bearers were removed as well as mould in door cavities and other hard to access areas were not treated correctly. In good faith, I attempted to raise these issues directly with the insurer however my concerns were dismissed. I had no choice but to hope that AFCA would see some reason. Thankfully AFCA too found that the information suggests that mould caused by the flood event is present and that the presence of such prevents me from being able to safely operate on you guys (or even safely inhabit the place with my staff). So next steps now are I have to discuss with AFCA as well my legal team as to whether I accept the AFCA determination or start legal action as the claim amount exceeds AFCA's monetary limits. Sorry about the inconvenience guys!

Personal stuff for my long time regular patients -

In the meantime, since I have been literally on gardening leave, the garden is growing nicely (still need a couple retaining walls and a front fence). My son Harrison is 4.5yrs old and cycling almost 10km's at a time and I'm in the process of writing a book on dentistry that I'll have up on Amazon eventually. I'm a massive Amazon fan now due to the lockdowns so much so, I've even signed up as an Amazon Affiliate (I don't get anything for recommending people to join as affiliates). For those of you tech savvy, a bit bored and/or in need of a bit of extra income, I think looking into affiliate marketing is not a bad thing. If you have a website and have an audience, you can sell without even trying to sell - like this - the Waterpik I am currently using. You'll be amazed by how much crap comes out of your teeth after brushing and flossing and then water blasting. I used to use the Oral-B version. Have not tested the new linked one yet. I get some sort of commission from people buying from sales from these links supposedly. Obviously if I wanted to actually sell something I'd put a bit more content regarding the stuff. I'm just giving an example of how the affiliate marketing process works.

Lastly, I'm now a Lumen Ambassador -  Lumen is a tool that helps people 'hack' their metabolism and yes it has an Affiliate Marketing Program - everything on the internet is related to marketing it seems.. The Lumen device seems to work nicely (yes I am using it myself) but is priced like most professional medical devices. If anyone wants to purchase the Lumen use the code gerald to get a 10% discount - Call me first BEFORE buying it as it is only a TOOL. It might not be right for you as it depends on what you are expecting from it.. You have to be willing to make quite a few lifestyle changes (for the healthier) and it is always very helpful having a health professional guiding you. Yes I have been keeping myself busy with my kid and doing online stuff as there isn't much else to do with all these lockdowns. Anyway, stay safe guys!
